My (Pre-) Travel Pet Peeves

And I have many…Some I’ve already mentioned in my posts regarding etiquette but the two that frustrate me the most are during preparations for travel. I do love organising trips and the excitement and expectations it brings but packing for a trip and emptying the fridge cause me undue stress.

Packing for some people can be fun and I know I’ve written about it. If you go by a checklist you can’t go wrong. The only real issues are climate and the weather at the destination(s) and the activities one is going to partake in, whether it’s skiing, mountain climbing, snorkelling, trekking, etc. Pretty simple, but for me it is the decision making and time factor. It would be great to take off and buy everything at destination.

The only things I have bought at destination are toiletries: deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. If you go the whole hog it will end up being a costly solution just to save time packing. If you like shopping and I know some people do this, leave with an empty case and come home with a full one. This isn’t a bad idea if you love shopping. Buy the latest fashions, clothes, shoes and accessories. But then packing becomes an issue again. Knowing this I couldn’t be bothered honestly. Guess I’ll have to lump it and get wiser at packing. Perhaps do it over a longer time period packing a little at a time and making sure I know what I have packed. Going backwards and forwards to check can be another annoying problem. Or the other solution prepare several cases for the different seasons and have them there pre-packed ready to be tweaked and off you go!

The fridge thing is a different kettle of fish. Not an easy task to get the timing right emptying the fridge. Unless of course you have a close to empty fridge in the first place or only buy food as it is needed or just eat out all the time and only keep the bare necessities cold, like milk, a drink, etc. I tend to buy more than I need and get stuck with food that will have to be thrown out. Brrrh.

What compounds this problem is I also buy food for my mother that I look after full time so it isn’t as easy as explained. We don’t always eat the same food. She has no teeth so her food is broken up and pureed; fed with a teaspoon and fluids by syringe. Not easy. Perhaps clearing out the fridge is the worst of my two pet peeves. Can anyone else relate with me on this?

Cheers
