A great way to see Singapore and its highlights all done while sitting in an air conditioned bus. Or, if you prefer from the open-deck of the top level from where you’ll get a great view.

If you fly with Singapore Airlines you get a discount (which I do) by using your boarding pass or your KrisFlyer membership card. If you are on a stopover holiday it is free, otherwise pay full price if on neither.

It’s not public transport, but you can use this bus to go to any of the best sights and hop-off and hop-on again later. So it can be worthwhile compared to catching public transport, either buses or trains. At least you get to see all the important stuff from ground level, otherwise you’ll probably use Singapore’s underground railway, the MRT, which is the most efficient way to travel in Singapore.

The MRT also keeps you out of the heat and it is very popular with the locals. But you’ll need to know where you are going so if you’ve never been to Singapore before, better not waste time figuring where things are and take this service, relax and enjoy.

This was the fourth time I have been on the Hop-on Hop-off bus. My first was in 2002 with my wife. Since that time I have done this as a family (all four of us) and once with my daughter and the other with my son. The last two on the extended service from Suntec City on all four routes: Red, Blue, Yellow and Brown Lines.

You can purchase a ticket with the driver or at the Suntec City terminus. With the ticket you will also get a map and timetables. The brochure with the map is also available in hotels. The times are indicative, buses transit the various hop-on hop-off stops. Always try to be at stops 10 minutes earlier. Buses usually are on time, if not late a few minutes.

If you are on the top level make sure to be quick getting down the steps to alight. Suggestion is come down a stop earlier. Occasionally drivers only stop briefly at intermediate stops where there’s no one boarding. Another suggestion if you have plenty of time is to do one circuit and then pick the locations you desire to visit on the next round.
