Great Pizza: Price, Quality and Service

Happened to come across this place while I was enjoying a ride on the Hong Kong tramway. Had seen it on my way to Shau Kei Wan and then on the way back I thought I should give this pizzeria restaurant a try.

It was already about 3pm, a late lunch. I managed to get their midday special, an entrée and a main. I originally only wanted a pizza and a drink, however the waitress pointed out that if I wanted, it came together with an entrée. So on her kind advice I decided on the minestrone and a giardiniera pizza. To drink a pot of hot tea with lemon.

I couldn’t wait and started my entrée minestrone that I realised I should’ve taken a photo. You can see how much I already had plus the piece of foccacia bread mostly gone © Carlo Irlitti

As I make my own pizzas at home I consider myself reasonably knowledgeable about how to make them. I also try to have one in places where I travel so that I can experience the variety, quality and taste from that location. Here, I was pleasantly surprised. The quality, combination of ingredients and flavour was excellent. Cooked perfectly too. I could have had another no problems, it was so delicious.

I asked the waitress whose idea it was for this type of pizza. She said the owner of the chain. I mean it’s not the first time I’ve had something similar but obviously, it had something about it that made it special. I think it was the pesto in place of just olive oil. The giardiniera is a vegetarian pizza so it should go down well with most people.

The minestrone as an entrée was perfect as was the service. Price was about right too. Their menu can be seen on their website. Pizza Express has a further fourteen restaurants in Hong Kong besides Kornhill Plaza, including one at HKIA. Next time I’m in HK I’ll definitely give them another visit, as I will their Singapore restaurant near Orchard Road.

For more information on the food served. locations, etc., visit the Pizza Express HK website.

Update: All up there are twentytwo restaurants located in Hong Kong, Kowloon, the New Territories and Island Districts. The HKIA restaurant has closed.
