Mixed Bag: Good Location, Bad Room

A well positioned hotel close to Termini Railway Station. My reason for staying here was so that I was close to the station arriving from Tuscany on the Frecciarossa and leaving on the Leonardo Express to Fiumicino Airport.

I have mixed feelings about this place. It’s position, price, breakfast and staff are all fine. It was the location of my room that didn’t satisfy me. Mind you I booked when the hotel was basically full so had no option, still I have to be frank.

I was given room number 10. It’s on the first floor next to the stairs and lift. It is also probably the closest to the downstairs lobby. That in itself isn’t the problem. It’s the talking that can be heard from downstairs which can be annoying.

Annoying are also other guests who cannot keep quiet in the hallway, slam their doors or drag their room chair on the hard floors. Even showering and hair drying can be heard. I was unfortunate to have a couple next door who was up around midnight, had their showers and then dried their hair twice. All this over a period of two hours until they left talking and dragging their luggage. To make things worse another neighbour over the next hour did a similar thing.

Worse still is that outside the window in the courtyard there are several air conditioning compressors that will switch on at a certain time and run for a while. I do not recommend this room if you are a light sleeper. I cannot comment on rooms on higher floors. Hopefully they’ll be much better.

The room itself was clean. Shower was good. Hot water ran virtually immediately. Only drawback was a slight sewer smell coming from the sink. The double bed was not so good. The mattress sagged on the side where people would sit. The small wardrobe could not be opened properly. The door was jammed. The drawer below had to be pulled out so the door could open.

The breakfast was good with the usual croissants, cornetti and other cakes, orange and a mixed juice, yoghurts, breads, cereals, coffee and tea. Espresso coffee too if you request it. There may have been other food but I concentrated only on a few things.

The air conditioning seemed OK, but WiFi was weak and hard to connect at times. The staff were good. They cannot be faulted. Very courteous. The neighbourhood is not the flashiest but it is safe.

Would I stay here again? If I had a better room probably yes. The position alone at 50 metres from the side entrance of the Termini Station on Via Giolitti and the closeness of the Leonardo Express and the buses to Fiumicino and Ciampino Airports can make the stay worth it. The price wasn’t bad either but remember the daily Euro 4 city tax to add to the room price.
