Quick Relaxing Stopover
This is my fourth visit to this hotel, this time just for a one-night stopover before heading to Europe. Also this time with my family.
When I booked I actually made a terrible mistake and got the date wrong. Only finding out when we arrived. They were also fully booked. Luckily though after sorting a few things out they found two rooms for us. The only drawback, I had to pay extra, $SGD160 for the rooms. I wasn’t planing to spend that extra money on accommodation but it was a small price to pay for my error. I didn’t want to go looking for another hotel just after arriving with luggage and family in tow, especially after I had already mucked up by leaving my children’s luggage keys back home. That’s another story to tell, which ended up well.
Anyhow after sorting things out at concierge they gave us two rooms both on the 8th floor. We got a double facing Victoria Street while the kids had a twin at the end of the corridor facing the Royal at Queens, another hotel we’ve stopped over in a previous trip.
The rooms were clean, bathrooms too, although our bathroom showed a little more wear and tear. Beds’ mattresses were firm but we managed a good sleep.
Breakfast as in my previous visits was very good. Plenty to choose from (Western, local and Japanese). WiFi reception was good in both rooms.
One of the things I like best about this hotel is its location, only 200 metres from the MRT station at Bras Basah on the corner of Queen Street and Bras Basah Road. From here you can reach Orchard Road very quickly, the shopping mecca of Singapore. Also when travelling from Changi Airport I usually get off at Bras Basah (after changing at Paya Lebar) and when I leave the hotel for the airport I go to Bugis MRT. Either MRT station is handy though.
Overall our stay was very good. Hotel Grand Pacific is a place I’ll be coming back to again and again. It ticks all the boxes for location, quality, service and price. You can get cheaper rates in many other hotels of the same level and of course in my line of work reporting and reviewing products I will need to try other places out and could possibly find better, but I’ve become so accustomed here that I’d find it hard to go anywhere else especially when the staff starts to know you! I’ll be back many more times.
