Modern, Comfortable, Well Located and Secure Apartment

This is an apartment in Via Filippo Turati run by Hotel Siena. Situated less than ten minutes walk from Roma Termini railway station and its side entrance in Via Giolitti.

It’s one of two apartments located in the same building, both on the second floor. The apartments use the same entrance to a small hallway. Our apartment faced the internal courtyard, the other Via Turati. The apartment is small, very modern and minimalist, all painted in white. It has just enough room for a family of three or four. We were four, two adults and children of 12 and 14 years old.

We arrived at 12:30pm and were allowed to leave our luggage in the apartment at 12:45pm. Normally check-in is at 2pm. By arriving early, we may have put pressure on the person who was preparing the room. He forgot to sweep and vacuum the floors. We found woman’s hair in the bathroom and around the apartment. Besides this the place was in order.

The two bathrooms are very modern, both with showers, toilet and wash basins. The larger bathroom also had a bidet. The kitchen has an induction stove, a stainless steel sink, a microwave and a small fridge to keep a few things cold.

Under the sink there was dish washing liquid and other cleaning products. A washing machine was available. We didn’t require its use. There are plenty of plates, forks, knives and spoons. There is a pot and a couple of frying pans also. However, several utensils are lacking. A long handle stirring spoon, a sieve and a good tea towel to dry dishes, if available would make things a little better, especially if you cook your own pasta or vegetables.

We found some salt, but it is best that you buy your own cooking products to be sure you have what you need, otherwise eat out or bring back takeaway. We managed to cook dinner and have breakfast here. The small dining table just fits four people. It was located in the bedroom as there was no room in the kitchen, the sofa used by the children as their bed took up the space. Normally it sits in the middle of the living area which forms part of the kitchen, in between the sofa and the kitchen cabinets.

On the right side of kitchen cabinets there is a flat screen TV on the wall. The other TV is on the bedroom wall opposite the Queen bed. Two bedside cabinets sit on either side of the bed. A built in wardrobe is next to the bathroom door. On the other side of the bed is a tall mirror. The Queen bed was comfortable with a reasonably firm mattress. The sofa bed was a little restrictive. Not ideal for the kids. Probably better suited for one person.

The split system air conditioning worked very well in both rooms. Good temperature control. Last thing, the WiFi, worked very well.

If you are travelling across Italy and love staying in apartments taking your own food to cook, I would recommend this place. It’s clean and modern. Its location not far from Roma Termini for trains or buses to the airports (Ciampino and Fiumicino) is perfect. The area is reasonably quiet, it may not look the best but when you have Chinese shop owners in the area, you know things are fine. Take my word for it. Besides you are behind three solid doors, the “portone” (the main door) on ground floor which cannot be opened from outside unless you have the key, the door on the second floor landing and the door to the apartment.

The only drawback with this apartment is its price. It’s a bit expensive compared to some other apartments available on booking sites found in the same area. Would I stay here again? As a family of four probably not. Solo, perhaps, but more of a chance as a couple. All depends on the price of course, which I hope can be negotiated if booked direct.
