Friendly, clean, comfortable, stylish but unpretentious
Stayed as a solo traveller for two nights during the Indian festival of lights, Deepavali (Diwali or Divali).
The hotel is located northwest of Bugis and on the southern fringe of Little India a few hundred metres away from Little India MRT station on Bukit Timah Road and the SIA Hop-on bus stop on Sungei Road.
Many eateries and restaurants are in walking distance, not to mention several on the grounds of the hotel. The Albert Café & Restaurant is on the first floor and is run separately from the hotel. Breakfast is served here daily. Guests have the option of purchasing breakfast from the front desk at a reduced rate. At time of this writing it was $SGD17.65 (taxes included).
The service at both the hotel and restaurant was friendly and efficient. At check-in I was allocated room 517, on the fifth floor and at the end of the western corridor.
The room was clean and tidy and comprised of a comfortable Queen size bed, 40-plus inch LG flat screen TV, in-cabinet fridge, hot water kettle for coffee and tea, dressing table with large mirror, side cabinets, wardrobe with safe, iron and ironing table, hairdryer and other extras. The bathroom had a bath with rain shower and hand shower.
The only small issue was the hot water. It would take a few minutes to arrive. I had the handyman come to check. He explained it was due to the boiler being downstairs and possibly due to usage by others at the same time.
Watched briefly a bit of TV. Some reception wasn’t the best, but I assume most people would only watch news programmes, etc. So the TV is not an important factor.
Noise, just the usual you get in any highrise hotels. The occasional talking in the corridors or a door slamming. There was construction work going on the northern side of the hotel on Rochor Canal Road. It’s work on the extension of the Singapore MRT (underground railway). I was advised at the front desk about this, but wasn’t affected until I was in the lobby when everything started to shake. It was only mild but it lasted at least 20 minutes. This happened only once while I was in the hotel. No other issues besides these.
I had the “not disturb” sign on all the time as I didn’t require cleaning. I did get a call from reception though, late afternoon on my second day. They did send up the maid. She was going to offer me clean towels etc. I only needed extra body soap as I still had two clean towels. Goes to show that they do want to keep the rooms clean if you require it.
On my second day after checkout I was able to use the shower in the gym so I could freshen up before leaving for the airport. My luggage was set aside and looked after while I went out during the day.
A special mention: thanks to Steven for the cool drink in the lobby. A nice gesture for the hotel guests. Overall I rate my stay as excellent and would be back if the opportunity arose.

Note: The construction work for the MRT along Rochor Canal Road was completed, so no noise and vibrations any longer.
